I AM EUROPE

I AM EUROPE is an exploratory expedition into the heart of the European Citizenship concept. Through this project we want to learn what citizens’ participation can mean in a European context, and find out what is needed so that European citizens get more involved in EU policymaking.

I AM EUROPE is organized in partnership with 12 other European civil society and grassroots organizations and with the support of the EC’s Europe for Citizens program.

The project is built on the knowledge and experience of citizens and organizations engaged in local civic initiatives. From January to June 2013, 250 of these European citizens gathered in a series of workshops to exchange, evaluate and (re)invent participation tools to enlarge citizen influence on EU policymaking. At the final conference in Brussels, the citizens presented the results of this collective work – proposals of enhancing civic participation in the European Union –  and developed them further with experts.

At this occasion, we launched the first edition of the newspaper I AM EUROPE, produced by the participating citizens and dedicated to the EU citizenship challenges.
