Evens Foundation
Living together harmoniously in Europe

YoungPress.eu
Antwerp was designated European Youth Capital in 2011. The Evens Foundation and its partner StampMedia used this opportunity to organize a conference for young European reporters, YoungPress.eu.

This first conference took place from 27th until 29th October 2011, in Antwerp (Belgium).

We wished to engage, in particular, the news and opinion-makers of tomorrow. We  therefore invited 100 young journalists(-in-the-making), aged 18 to 26 from all over Europe to take part in reflection and debate on the future of news broadcasting and the challenges they face, using a series of polemical questions as their starting point.

The conference consisted of a series of lectures, debates and workshops around a selection of themes. Key experts were invited to shed light on contemporary media and share their insights, guidance and recommendations. The 100 young journalists had lots of opportunity to start a dialogue with renowned media experts, including Paul Lewis (photo), Stefan Candea, Annabel McGoldrick, Alex Wood, Henk Blanken, Olaf Koens, Ingrid Lieten, Marietje Schaake and many others.

The main themes of the conference were:

– the omnipresence of ‘instant’ media
– the threat to high-quality journalism
– the spread of biased information
– new models and experimentation by independent journalists
